The Certification Program must be completed within a year and a half. We have scheduled such a length of time to accommodate working professionals and so that participants can take one of the approved Issue Mapping Courses, and the Dialogue Mapping™ Workshop. Recertification is annual until someone has maintained consistent recertification for 5 years and has shown themselves to be at a Master level. At that point they become a CogNexus Certified Master Dialogue Mapper™ which is an award that never expires.
Participation
4) 30 hours of “real life” logged Dialogue Mapping™ facilitation, including:
Working alone
Working with a “class buddy” or other individuals
Group situations
Part of the 30 hours must include one or more full facilitation engagement cycles with clients (volunteer or paid). They must involve at least 15 hours of mapping with Compendium or a functionally equivalent IBIS tool. Hours spent on the client facilitation session preparation and planning, map clean up and client report generation can also be counted towards this requirement.
5) An additional approved project. Examples include:
A research project involving at least 8 hours of research and writing, including a final research report.
Acting as a teaching assistant for one of the approved Issue Mapping Courses
Developing and offering a specialized (advanced) class about Issue or Dialogue Mapping
Over the course of your program, CogNexus staff will have the opportunity to evaluate your mapping and Compendium skills. This evaluation will be factored into whether you are certified. This application is your report of how you have completed the certification requirements as well as a personal statement and summary about what you have learned and how you hope to use Dialogue Mapping™ in the world.
Prerequisites
Admission to the program is dependent upon:
Completion of the Initial Application for Certification ($300, non-refundable). Payment can be made here.
This application can be submitted any time after one of the approved Issue Mapping Courses has been successfully completed and should be submitted before beginning your research project. It includes a personal statement as well as a description of how you plan to complete your “real life” Dialogue Mapping™ practice and (at least) some ideas about how you might complete the “additional project” requirement, below.
Recertification
Certifications are renewed annually, in January. The annual cost for certification is $150.00. Recertification is based on a review of a statement created by participants describing their level of experience and engagement with Dialogue and Issue Mapping over the past year. Once someone has maintained consistent recertification for 5 years and has shown themselves to be at a Master level, they become a CogNexus Certified Master Dialogue Mapper™ which is a certification that never expires.
Cost
Payments for the Certification program are “pay as you go” and are as follows:
Approved Issue Mapping Course, price varies per course
Dialogue Mapping™ Workshop, $995
Application for Certification, $300
Research Project Supervision Fee, $600
Annual certification renewal (each January), $150
Payments can be made here.
Miscellaneous
Courses are taught by Dr. Jeff Conklin, the CogNexus staff and other Dialogue and Issue Mapping experts.
Issue Mapping is inherently technological in nature; Dialogue Mapping™ is inherently social and interactive in nature. It is important that potential Certification applicants know that certification will most likely be difficult unless you love messing around with technology. And, those who enjoy Dialogue Mapping™ also enjoy group facilitation…enjoying group facilitation is somewhat of a requirement for successful (and enjoyable Dialogue Mapping)!
